Forestry Mulching, View Clearing & Land Clearing in Jasper, GA

Northline Forestry Group clears cabin lots, view corridors, mountain driveways and wooded acreage in Jasper and across Pickens County. We are based in Commerce and use a tracked mulcher that can work slopes while leaving the ground covered.

Land clearing in Jasper

Jasper is mountain country with a small-town center, and the land people bring us here usually comes with a view, a slope or both. Weekend cabins, retirement homes on ridge lots, and wooded tracts off GA 515 make up a big share of the work. Many owners bought land years ago and are only now ready to build, which means the lot has had time to grow in thick.

Pickens County also has plenty of rural acreage that gets used for hunting, horses and family land. Those owners want trails, food plots and clean fence lines rather than a building pad. Whatever the goal, we look at the slope, the rock, the water and the access first. Over 30 years in sitework has taught us that most problems on mountain lots start with the way the ground was cleared.

Common jobs

What we clear around Jasper

Ridge lot view clearing

We selectively thin trees and laurel on Pickens County ridge lots to open long mountain views, while keeping enough trees and roots to protect the slope.

Cabin site and driveway clearing

We clear the cabin footprint and a driveway path on steep, rocky lots, then grub and do light grading where the plan needs a pad.

Hunting land trails and plots

We cut trails, shooting lanes and food plot openings on wooded Pickens County acreage so you can get in and manage it.

Firebreaks around mountain homes

We thin brush and ladder fuels around cabins and along property edges to create defensible space and firebreaks on wooded mountain land.

Know the ground

Rock, ridges and steep slopes in Pickens County

Pickens County is known for marble, and the area around Tate and Marble Hill shows how close rock can sit to the surface. North and east of Jasper, the land rises toward Mount Oglethorpe, Burnt Mountain and the Big Canoe area, with steep ridges, rocky soils and narrow hollows. Lower ground has red clay and small creeks that feed toward Talking Rock Creek. Woods here mix oaks, hickories and pines over laurel, privet and briars.

Steep, rocky land is where mulching earns its keep. Instead of pushing soil around, we grind the brush and trees in place and leave the chips on the slope as cover. Stumps come down to about ground level, and rock stays where it is. We plan routes across a hillside carefully, stay off ground too steep to be safe, and keep the creek buffers in mind so runoff does not carry clay downhill.

Things to know before you clear

  • Check with Pickens County or the City of Jasper about land disturbance permits before grading a cabin site, since local requirements vary.
  • Gated mountain communities often have their own rules on tree removal and view clearing, so check with your property owners association before work begins.
  • Steep gravel roads and tight switchbacks can limit equipment access, so we confirm the route in during the free quote.
  • Streams in the mountains may be classified as trout waters with a 50-foot buffer instead of 25 feet, so check with the county or Georgia EPD before clearing near water.

Jasper land clearing FAQ

Do you serve Jasper and the rest of Pickens County?

Yes. We clear land in Jasper and across Pickens County, including Tate, Talking Rock, Nelson, Marble Hill and the Big Canoe area. We are based in Commerce and travel throughout North Georgia for mountain lot work. Call (770) 891-0899 or email scott@northlineforestry.com for a free quote.

Do I need a permit to clear a cabin lot in Jasper?

It depends on how much ground you disturb and whether you grade. Mulching brush is often handled differently from clearing and grading a house site. Check with Pickens County or the City of Jasper for local land disturbance rules, and note that sites of one acre or more generally need state stormwater coverage. Your community association may also need to approve the work.

Can you open a mountain view on my Jasper lot without hurting the slope?

Yes. We do view clearing selectively, thinning laurel, brush and smaller trees in the sight line and leaving the trees and roots that hold the hillside. The mulch stays on the ground as cover. We walk the lot with you first and agree on what stays, so the view opens without turning the slope into bare clay.

How do you handle rock when clearing land near Jasper?

We work around it. The mulcher takes trees and stumps down to about ground level and leaves rock in place. We do not offer below-grade stump grinding or rock removal. On rocky Pickens County lots that need a pad or driveway, we do light grading where the ground allows and can tell you when a larger excavation crew is needed.
