Forestry Mulching & Land Clearing in Metro Atlanta

Northline Forestry Group clears wooded lots, backyards, HOA common areas, infill parcels and remaining acreage across metro Atlanta, from Gwinnett and Forsyth to Cobb, North Fulton and DeKalb. We are based in Commerce and clear with the erosion control and site development experience that suburban jobs need.

Land clearing in Metro Atlanta

Clearing land in metro Atlanta is mostly about working close to other people. Lots are smaller, neighbors are next door, roads and storm drains are right there, and an inspector may drive by. Most of our metro work is selective underbrush clearing for homeowners, lot clearing for builders, common area cleanup for HOAs, and edge clearing around commercial sites. There is still farm and wooded acreage on the outer edges, in places like Walton and north Forsyth, and we clear that too.

What sets us apart is where we come from. We have over 30 years in sitework, with the last seven in turnkey civil site development for commercial and industrial clients. That means we understand grades, drainage, erosion control, utilities and permits, and we know what the builder or grading crew needs after we leave. We clear a site so the next step is easier, not harder.

Common jobs

What we clear around Metro Atlanta

Selective underbrush clearing

We clear privet, ivy, vines and brush from suburban woods and backyards across the metro while leaving the healthy trees standing.

Builder and infill lot clearing

We clear wooded lots for new homes and small developments, then grub the pad, shape drainage and prep driveway base so construction can start.

HOA and commercial edge clearing

We cut back common areas, detention pond banks, trail corridors and the wooded edges of commercial and industrial sites.

Invasive plant removal

We mulch out kudzu, privet and honeysuckle and can coordinate follow-up herbicide treatment by a licensed applicator to keep it from returning.

Know the ground

Piedmont clay, stream corridors and suburban woods

Metro Atlanta sits on the Georgia Piedmont, rolling ground with red clay soils that wash fast when they are left bare. The Chattahoochee River runs through the north side of the metro, and countless creeks wind behind neighborhoods and office parks. Woods left between developments are usually pine and mixed hardwood with a dense understory of Chinese privet, English ivy, Japanese honeysuckle and briars. Kudzu covers road edges and vacant lots.

That combination puts erosion and water first. Forestry mulching grinds brush and trees in place and leaves a cover layer on the clay, so there is less mud in the street and less silt in the creek. We keep clearing outside stream buffers, plan access to avoid rutting lawns and driveways, and call in utility locates when work goes below the surface. On construction lots we grub, grade and prep after mulching.

Things to know before you clear

  • Each metro county and city has its own land disturbance and tree rules, so check with the office that covers your address before any grading.
  • Many metro Atlanta counties are under a seasonal burn ban from May 1 to September 30, which is one reason we mulch in place or haul debris off instead of burning.
  • Most suburban neighborhoods have HOA covenants about tree removal and buffers, so check yours before clearing near a property line.
  • Buried utilities are common in developed areas, so Georgia 811 should be called before any digging, grubbing or grading.

Metro Atlanta land clearing FAQ

Do you serve metro Atlanta?

Yes. We clear land across metro Atlanta, including Gwinnett, Forsyth, Cherokee, Cobb, North Fulton, DeKalb, Walton and Rockdale counties and nearby areas. We are based in Commerce, northeast of the metro, and serve all of North Georgia too. Call (770) 891-0899 or email scott@northlineforestry.com for a free quote on your property.

Do I need a permit to clear land in metro Atlanta?

It depends on your county or city and what you are doing. Grading and larger clearing jobs usually need a local land disturbance permit, and sites that disturb one acre or more generally need state stormwater coverage. Some cities also have tree ordinances. Selective underbrush work may be treated differently, so check with your local office first.

Why choose forestry mulching for a metro Atlanta lot?

Because it clears without leaving bare clay or burn piles. Mulching grinds brush and trees in place, and the chip layer helps hold soil and limit erosion, which matters next to streets, storm drains and neighbors. It also avoids the summer burn ban and most haul-off. When the site needs a clean pad, we grub, grade or haul off as well.

What affects the cost of land clearing in metro Atlanta?

Acreage, density, tree size, slope, access and what you want left behind drive the cost. Tight backyards with narrow gates take more care than open lots. Hauling debris off, grubbing stumps or grading a pad adds work, and travel distance plays a part. We look at the property and give you a free quote.
