Trail and Road Cutting in North Georgia

Trail and road cutting opens a path through wooded land for walking, ATVs, trucks or a future driveway, and includes shooting lanes for hunters. We serve North Georgia landowners, hunters, farms and builders, and we lay out each path with drainage and grade in mind so it lasts.

Trail & Road Cutting, the Northline way

A trail or access road is only as good as its route. A path that runs straight down a hill becomes a ditch after a few Georgia thunderstorms. One that sits in a low spot stays muddy for weeks. Before we cut anything, we walk the land with you to find a route that follows the contour, avoids wet areas, and gets you where you want to go without fighting the ground.

We cut trails and roads with a tracked forestry mulcher. It grinds trees and brush along the route and spreads the mulch on the path and along the edges. For walking and ATV trails, that is often all you need. For access roads and driveway paths, we can follow up with grubbing, light grading, crown and ditch shaping, and base prep so the road is ready for gravel.

Our background is the difference here. We have more than 30 years in sitework, with the last 7 in turnkey civil site development for commercial and industrial clients. Grades, drainage, erosion control and road base are what we know. That means a path that sheds water the right way and a driveway route that is ready for your builder or gravel supplier.

What's included

What we cover

Walking and ATV trails

We cut trails through the woods sized for walking, side-by-sides or ATVs, routed to follow the land and limit washouts.

Access roads

We open routes for trucks and tractors to reach the back of your property, a cabin site, a pond or a field.

Driveway paths

We clear the driveway route on a new homesite and can grub, rough grade and prep the base for gravel.

Shooting lanes

We cut narrow lanes from your stand or blind, keeping cover on the sides and leaving the edges natural.

Drainage shaping

We shape crowns, turnouts and water bars where needed so runoff leaves the path instead of running down it.

Route planning

We help pick the route around slopes, wet areas, creeks and keeper trees before any cutting starts.

Local ground

Building trails and roads that hold up on Georgia hills

The biggest enemy of a trail or road in North Georgia is water. Red clay sheds rain quickly, and a bare path pointed downhill concentrates that water until it cuts a gully. Following the contour, keeping grades gentle where we can, and adding water bars or turnouts on longer slopes keeps the water moving off the path instead of down it.

In the mountain counties, steep side slopes and rock change what is practical. Sometimes the best route is longer, with switchbacks, rather than a direct line. Rock near the surface can also limit grading. We will be straight with you about what a route will take and whether it is a good fit for a mulched trail or needs more site work to become a road.

Creek crossings need extra thought. Georgia requires a 25-foot buffer along state waters for land-disturbing activity, 50 feet on trout streams, and crossings may require permits. Larger road projects that disturb an acre or more generally need state stormwater permit coverage, and county rules vary. We call Georgia 811 before any grading. When in doubt, check with your county first.

Our process

Call with your goals

Tell us where you want to go, how you will use the path and send photos, a map or aerial image if you have one.

Walk the route

We walk the land with you to pick a route around slopes, wet spots and creeks, then give you a free quote.

Flag the line

We flag the centerline and width, mark keeper trees, and call Georgia 811 if any grading is planned.

Cut and shape

We mulch the route, then grub, grade and shape drainage where the path needs to carry vehicles.

Ride it together

We walk or ride the finished route with you and touch up turns, drainage or width as needed.

Trail & Road Cutting FAQ

Can you cut a trail through my woods?

Yes. We cut walking, ATV and side-by-side trails through North Georgia woods with a tracked forestry mulcher. We walk the land with you first to pick a route that follows the contour, avoids wet spots and creeks, and saves the trees you want to keep. Mulch is left on the trail surface and edges.

How much does it cost to cut a trail or access road?

We give a free quote after walking the route. Cost depends on length and width, how thick the woods are, tree size, slope and terrain, creek crossings, whether the path needs grubbing and grading for vehicles, access, and distance from Commerce. A mulched walking trail costs less to build than a graded road ready for gravel.

How long does it take to cut a trail?

Short trails through light woods can be done in a day, while longer routes or graded access roads take several days. Production depends on density, tree size and species, terrain and access. Grading and drainage work adds time. We give you a realistic schedule with your quote.

What is left on the trail after cutting?

A mulched surface with stumps cut to about ground level. We do not offer below-grade stump grinding. For walking and ATV trails, the mulch makes a soft surface that limits erosion. For roads and driveways, we grub out stumps and roots, grade the path and prep it for gravel, and can haul off debris if needed.

Can you cut shooting lanes for deer hunting?

Yes. We cut narrow shooting lanes from your stand or blind, angled and sized the way you want them, and leave cover on the sides so deer still feel safe moving through. We can also clear access trails to your stands and open areas for food plots on the same visit.

Can you prepare a driveway route for gravel?

Yes. We clear the driveway path, grub out stumps and roots, do light grading, shape a crown and side drainage, and prep the base so it is ready for gravel. With our civil site background, we pay attention to slope and where the water will go, which helps the driveway hold up.
